Duties

Agency Mission: Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment and to promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations.

Accidental spills of dangerous materials and past business practices have contaminated land and water throughout the state. The (TCP) works to remedy these situations, which range from cleaning up contamination from leaking underground storage tanks, to remediating large, complex projects requiring substantial engineering solutions. Our mission is to get and keep contaminants out of the environment.

We are looking for a person who possesses excellent people skills, are flexible and organized and has the ability to communicate with a diverse audience, a good listener who asks questions and is a problem solver that works well in a team. They will communicate with the public, generating and reviewing cleanup plans for properties, managing data quality control and communicate the information to the public. They will also manage contractors and consultants on public works contracts completing the administrative duties associated with that.

The Environmental Cleanup Engineer is expected to work with the team to complete cleanup in the Everett Smelter cleanup site. Typical problems include access issues for cleanup, knowledge and information gaps of the public, public non-responsiveness and anger, and language differences.

The Environmental Cleanup Engineer will be working with a highly effective, supportive team cleaning up a large contaminated site to protect the people and the environment of Washington state for the future. They will gain experience working with the public, local governments and agencies. Flexibility is essential because they will periodically need to attend evening public meetings or festivals on the weekend.

The Everett Smelter team is small but efficient. Each member has their focus area and supports the others to create a balance to effectively complete the cleanup work. They are great to work with.

This recruitment will remain open until filled. The initial screening will be March 23, 2020. In order to be considered for the initial screening, please submit an application on or before March 22, 2020.
