We are currently hiring a coastal/marine project manager to join our Seattle engineering team. Mott MacDonald is a full-service engineering company focusing on the restoration and protection and of coastal areas and habitats, improving coastal resiliency, the development of port and harbor infrastructure, and development of renewable energy projects. Typical projects include harbors and marina infrastructure design, offshore wind development, marine terminal development, civil engineering, and habitat/shoreline protection and stabilization.

Working within the west coastal practice and alongside our established Maritime group, primary job responsibilities include:

  • Assist and/or lead the management of projects that may include the analysis of coastal processes such as currents, waves, storm surge, sediment transport, and coastal/estuarine morphology
  • Assist and/or lead the management projects that may include engineering analysis, preliminary, and detailed design of coastal and/or marine structures
  • Assist and/or lead the management of projects that may include civil engineering design, review of geotechnical assessments, hydraulics and hydrology, and other miscellaneous civil engineering tasks
  • Assist and/or lead in the development of scopes of work and proposals for our clients
  • Assist and/or lead project performance baseline management (scope, budget, schedule) and work with sub-consultants and team members and assure quality control of work throughout project execution and delivery
  • Provide effective interface with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and other Mott MacDonald offices in collaboration with PCO leads
  • Assist with developing data collection plans for surveying, assessments, geotechnical exploration, and environmental data
  • Perform engineering design projects with a focus on coastal, port, and water resource design
  • Assist in the performance of cost estimating on projects during the design phase
  • Collaboration with Mott MacDonald practices across North America and abroad
  • Review work by and assist with training younger engineers

Candidate Specification

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal, Civil, and/or Ocean Engineering or related field
  • 5-8 years of engineering design experience
  • P.E. License, or equivalent required
  • Experience with development of statements of qualifications and proposals
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including technical writing and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with industry standard analysis and design software
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Desire to work in a team environment
  • Flexibility to travel regionally
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
  • Communication and collaboration skills in a team setting to execute and manage project staff and subconsultants
  • Post-graduate degree in Coastal, Ocean, or Civil Engineering with a focus on Coastal, Ocean or Port Engineering
  • Engineering design experience in coastal or port engineering industry
  • Experience with coastal engineering design in urban settings such as shoreline protection, waterfront parks, shoreline restoration, flood control, navigation facilities, bulkheads, dredging, and recreational boating facilities
  • Experience in habitat creation and/or protection projects, and the application of coastal resiliency principles
  • Experience in offshore wind or marine renewable energy development
  • Experience in working on teams of multidisciplinary, urban-focused flood protection and resiliency projects
  • Experience managing complex coastal and waterfront engineering projects
