Title: Laboratory Technician I
Job Class:
Hourly/Non-Exempt $20-24/hour DOE
PI/Reports To: Dr.Elaine Peskind and David Cook

Summary:

Outstanding opportunity for a full-time Laboratory Technician I position within the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) located at the Seattle VA Puget Sound Medical Center and University of Washington.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary laboratory that collaborates closely on a daily basis with allied laboratories here at UW/Seattle VA and around the country. The major goal of this team is to uncover the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, especially how environmental risk factors (such as traumatic brain injury) influence susceptibility for cognitive impairment.

Responsibilities:

  • Biochemical experiments.
  • Microscopy experiments.
  • Data analyses, statistical analyses, maintaining research data records.
  • Mouse behavior studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences (e.g. neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology) with either at least one year of laboratory experience.
  • Strong skills in data analysis.
  • Knowledge of computers for word processing, graphic presentation, and using laboratory equipment
  • Strong organizational, analytic, and writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in confocal microscopy.
  • Demonstrable skills in working with members of a scientific team.
  • Able to keep detailed notes of experiments
  • Willing to learn new techniques
  • Willing to assist with animal experimental protocols

Expertise in the following is highly desirable:

  • Tissue processing histology
  • Microscopy and microscopic analyses done in brain tissue
  • Data and image analyses.
  • Analysis of microscopic images.
