Responsibilities:

We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our cardiac critical care APP team- someone who works well in a fast-paced - high stress setting. In this position, you will provide critical care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease, acute and chronic conditions, including independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, initiation of treatment, evaluation of interventions, perform procedures, and evaluation of outcomes. The APP is involved in education, consultation, research, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. This assignment requires staff to work >60% during evenings, weekends, or holidays

We are a highly specialized team that provides direct care and assumes responsibility for the clinical management of pediatric cardiac critical care patients in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit and as a critical care resource provider. We are a 24-bed unit with an average daily census of 20. The unit is jointly staffed with pediatric critical care fellows and advanced practice providers who equally share patient care responsibilities; however, our APPs are considered experts with MCS and complex critically ill patient management. We are a top 5 heart transplant program with a growing VAD service. We have a pediatric MCS transport program to support our large geographical area. Our team performs more than 500 heart surgeries per year and 698 cardiac catheterization procedures.

Patient & Family Care:

Providing care to infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease

  • Conduct patient assessment and medical history, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems
  • Caring for patients with both acute and chronic disease by managing therapeutic regimens
  • Caring for preoperative and postoperative cardiac patients including management of patients on mechanical circulatory support.
  • Caring for heart failure and heart transplant patients.
  • Participating in the intensive care unit medical rounds, including the presentation of clinical information and the progress and management of patients
  • Establishing a treatment plan and evaluation of interventions
  • Collaborates with CICU provider team, consulting services, and
  • Participate in teaching activities conducted by the PCCM fellowship, APPs, and Heart Center fellowship, and CICU attending physicians.
  • Completing bedside rounds at the end of the shift with the on-call night team for the CICU to complete sign-off and update management plans
  • Identify and document patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients
  • Employs diverse & complex strategies, interventions, & teaching to promote health & a safe environment.
  • Provides leadership in care management to achieve optimal quality and cost-effective care.
  • Documents & communicates with healthcare team members to achieve an integrated delivery of pediatric care services.
  • Delegates appropriate monitoring, assessment, & interventions according to the patient and scope of practice of the caregiver.
  • Provides consultation to influence the identified plan of care, to enhance the abilities of others to provide health care, and to effect change in the healthcare system.
  • Makes appropriate referrals and discusses recommendations with patient/family/caregiver.
  • Orders and/or performs appropriate treatments, therapies, & procedures that are based on current knowledge, research, & practice.
  • Provides patient/family/caregiver with diagnostic & laboratory results as well as actual/potential benefits, limitations, & adverse effects of proposed therapies.
  • Includes the patient/family/caregiver & other healthcare providers.
  • Advocate for the pediatric patient/family/caregiver.
  • Bases the evaluation process on advanced knowledge, practice, research, & documents appropriately.
  • Utilizes the results of the evaluation to determine the impact on the patient/family/caregiver, organization, & system to make/recommend process or structural changes including policy, procedure, or protocols as appropriate.

APP Professional Practice:

  • Maintains competency in skills/procedures
  • Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards
  • Participates in lifelong learning and professional development activities that improves skills & competence in clinical practice/role performance.
  • Serve as preceptor, role model, or mentor.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers/colleagues to improve pediatric health care & to foster the professions growth.
  • Integrate ethical considerations & research findings into practice
  • Provide leadership by participating on committees or in professional organizations, or writing/publishing/presenting.
  • Serve as a leader, influencing both healthcare practice & policy.

In addition, the Physician Assistant will:

  • Provide medical services that are within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practiceand delegation of the supervising physician
  • Meet on a regular cadence with the supervising physician for case review.

Requirements:

Required Education/Experience:

- For NPs in the critical care role: Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in acute care

- For PAs: Graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program

Required Credentials:

For NPs:

- Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington

- Pediatric acute care certification required

For PAs:

- Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington

- Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

For All Providers:

- Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration

- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.

-Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.

- Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintined in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuousy thorughout employment.

- Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies. - Two years experience in advanced practice provider role

- Two years experience in pediatric health care

Min to Max Hourly Salary: $67.36 - $99.07 /hr Min to Max Annual Salary: $140,114.00 - $206,068.00 /yr Salary Information:

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
