Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director Sr. Credit Analyst, Private Placements!

About the role

The Senior Credit Analyst will lead the review of new infrastructure, project finance and corporate transactions utilizing rigorous fundamental credit analysis and relative value analysis. You'll also be responsible for ongoing portfolio management by providing quantitative/analytical and qualitative support for infrastructure, project finance and corporate bonds. The ideal candidate is expected to have broad investment experience across multiple sectors with a particular focus on originating and managing debt investments in renewable (wind, solar and hydroelectric) and gas power projects, transmission and distribution assets, utilities and cooperatives. Present new investment opportunities to the Investment Committee supported by a well-developed investment thesis. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience regarding covenants and transaction structures common in the private placement market. You will work with legal counsel to ensure documentation is accurate, complete and appropriate including negotiating deal terms and/or amendment/waivers with agents and issuers. The candidate will develop relationships with the management teams of portfolio companies and is expected to have an established network of contacts with the sell side to maintain a strong market presence. The Senior Credit Analyst will work directly with the Head of Private Placements as well as the other analysts within the team.

What you will do

  • Lead the review of new infrastructure, project finance and corporate transactions, utilizingrenewables, power projects and transmission/distribution with a focus on North America, Australia, Europe and Latin America.
  • Will have experience utilizing intensive fundamental credit analysis and relative value analysis.
  • You'll also be responsible for ongoing portfolio management by providing quantitative/analytical and qualitative support for infrastructure and project finance investments.
  • Present new investment opportunities to the Investment Committee supported by a well-developed investment thesis.
  • The candidate is expected to have extensive experience regarding covenants and transaction structure common in the private placement market.
  • The Senior Credit Analyst will work directly with Portfolio Managers, traders, sell side analysts and other analysts within the team.
  • The Senior Credit Analyst will interact with other members of the Symetra investment department.

Compensation

Salary Range: $133,500.00 - $222,400.00 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are

  • A Bachelors level degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics or the foreign degree equivalent and a post-graduate degree (e.g., MBA) and/or professional qualification (e.g. CFA).
  • A minimum of seven years of fixed income credit research experience including at least five years of comparable buy-side private placement investing experience across multiple sectors with a particular focus on originating and managing debt investments in renewable (wind, solar and hydroelectric) and gas power projects, transmission and distribution assets, utilities and cooperatives.
  • Ability to provide quantitative/analytical and qualitative evidence to support an investment thesis.
  • Comfort dealing with uncertainty and risk.
  • Extensive experience making investment decisions that are supported by rigorous analysis.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner with strong conviction
  • Extensive knowledge of corporate fixed income markets and strong understanding of investment concepts, coupled with intellectual curiosity.
  • High level of initiative and ability to operate in a faced-paced environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing value added investment recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative team, while also communicating and interacting with a larger group of investment professionals.
  • Excellent financial modeling, accounting, analytical, presentation and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Exceptional knowledge of Bloomberg, CapIQ, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to be in person 2 days a week at our Farmington, CT office.
