The Data Science Lab focuses on democratizing education and resource awareness for data science and computational biology, with the ultimate goal of empowering more people to successfully use data science. This position will focus on the development of software packages to aid in informatics education. Large informatics educational initiatives funded by multi-year grants include:

Specifically, this role will include further development and maintenance of open source software such as https://www.ottrproject.org/ and https://github.com/fhdsl/metricminer . The ideal candidate will have good team communication skills and a strong motivation for creating well-documented and usable software products. This position will require self-motivation, an interest in scientific programming, coding, and working with a team. • Work collaboratively on multiple projects as a technical resource to define, develop, and manage data solutions that support the requirements and objectives of the project, apply automation, and provide feedback on technical solutions and options.
  • At times assisting with workshop and curriculum creation related to scientific software or data analysis.
Qualifications
  • A PhD in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, machine learning, or another statistical, computational discipline, ecology or related scientific field
  • Extensive experience with either R or Python and willingness to use either.
  • Experience with scientific programming.
  • Demonstrated prior experience with the development and maintenance of open source software.
  • Demonstrated experience with:

  • A CV summarizing your education and work experience so far.
  • The names and email addresses of two references.
  • Two publications, preprints, or blogs featuring your work.
  • A code sample representing code that you are proud of. This doesn't have to be long or especially fancy, but should be clean and do something non-trivial. Ideally this would be present as a commit to a code repository such as GitHub, but emailed code is fine as well.
  • A sample of work featuring education related content if possible (not required)

A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $67,728 to $100,000 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
