Responsible for assisting in and performing assessments of natural hazards and preparing technical reports for clients. Will assist in planning, managing, and coordinating activities for assigned projects to ensure that goals/objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed project schedule and budget by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of other consultants within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing project proposals including project schedule, budget, appropriate procedures to accomplish the project tasks, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources for various phases of the project.
  • Confer with project team members to outline work plan and to assist in performing duties.
  • Assist with directing and coordinating tasks within the project team to ensure tasks are progressing on schedule and within budgets.
  • Assist in performing field inspections of sites to assess natural disaster losses or earth movement to document perishable evidence in natural and built environments and assess causation of reported damages.
  • Experience with conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses including evaluating topography, landforms, and land use; studying aerial photography and maps; obtaining hydrometeorological data; assessing hydraulic structures; and, computing runoff, flow velocities, and flow depths.
  • Experience with the use and application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software to evaluate flood events.
  • Familiarity with the use of two-dimensional hydraulic models and geographic information systems (GIS) is preferred.
  • Capable of applying a variety of methods to evaluate flooding, erosion, and sedimentation.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports for clients as required.
  • Confer with other project team members to provide technical advice and support problem solving.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting well-developed and well-prepared client presentations and technical conference presentations.
  • Experience with performing field investigations in natural or built environments, assessing natural disaster damages, strong photo documentation and video documentation skills, technical report writing and preparation, and general familiarity with residential, commercial, agricultural, marine, transportation, and industrial construction is preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite; Google Earth Pro; AutoCAD; ESRI ArcView, hydrologic and hydraulic models including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and FLO-2D; and Internet research skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • EIT preferred
  • Ability to obtain PE license within 2 years of hire
