Texas Colon & Rectal Specialists is looking for a Medical Assistant/Surgery Schedulerto join our team! This position will work and support our New Braunfels, TX. Location.

What does a Surgery Scheduler do?

Under minimal supervision, dedicated to internal surgery scheduling from physician's orders as directed by the physician. Close working relationships and good communication with physician a must. Reserve operating rood date and time. Schedule anesthesia and surgical assistant and any outside surgical representatives and/or equipment necessary for procedure. Provide patients with pre-operative testing information ordered by physician. May be required to obtain any pre-operative testing results requested by physician and take appropriate actions as directed by Physician. Obtain necessary insurance authorization and pre-certification from insurance company with the proper Procedure (CPT) and Diagnosis codes (ICD-10). Communicate to the patient surgical information, all necessary prep the date/time/location of the appointment. May help orient, train and assign work of lower level employees. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.



Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for the Surgery Scheduler will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Schedule surgical procedures as ordered by physicians.
  • Prepare pre-op and surgical paperwork promptly. Ensure paperwork is submitted to appropriate individuals and institutions as required.
  • Ensure patients are completely informed regarding surgery procedures.
  • Facilitate scheduling pre-operative and/or post-operative appointments.
  • Respond to patient's inquiries regarding surgery times and preparation before surgery
  • Schedule post-surgical appointments
  • Contact insurance companies for surgery and in office precertification
  • Maintain supply of surgery kits
  • Create claims in Athena for surgery kits & collect fee from the patient
  • Complete financial responsibility form, have the patient sign and scan into the chart
  • Collect surgery deposits and post in Athena
  • File and document all information appropriately in the patient's EMR chart.


Qualifications

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of medical office experience required, with at least 1 year of scheduling surgical procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills, computer skills, CPT and ICD-10 coding, and knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Familiarity with medical billing, collection procedures and prior experience with EMR computer applications preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
