Mott MacDonald is seeking a systems engineer with at least three to five years of experience in requirements management. Our application of requirements engineering is largely within the transit sector, but we would welcome interest from requirements engineers from any industry that features delivery of complex multi-disciplinary projects and the rigorous definition and management of requirements.

Following recent contract wins, and with a strong backlog of work with existing clients, we are looking for a Systems Engineer to support major project delivery with a focus on requirements management. The Rail Transit group at Mott MacDonald is growing and is involved with several key rail development projects on the West Coast, specifically in Seattle, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles. This provides excellent opportunities for rail and transit engineering and systems engineering staff to further their career and work to deliver transformational projects across North America with a focus on the West Coast.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and implement pragmatic and effective requirements management processes on several capital-works delivery projects
  • Produce and implement the Requirements Management Plans during design development and construction in collaboration with the Resident Engineering Team, the Design-Build Contractor, and the Owner
  • Manage the process of establishing and maintaining the baseline design and construction requirements for the Design Build contract and manage the process of verifying and validating delivery against those requirements through the delivery phase
  • Develop Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices for design deliverables


Candidate Specification :

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in systems design and/or requirements management of large-scale capital projects
  • Experience of transit systems delivery would be preferable, but applications are also sought from experienced practitioners from other industries, such as automotive, aerospace, defense, water / wastewater, technology
  • Professional Engineer registered in the State of California or Washington would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in managing and operating Requirements Management (RM) processes
  • Knowledge in the set-up and operation of software tools, such as DOORS
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills


Salary Range: $88,000 - $113,000
