Our Rail Systems team in Seattle, WA is looking for a professional with around 12+ years of Rail Systems Engineering experience, with a bias towards Traction Electrification. The Rail Systems Lead will be responsible for Design, Construction and Project Management roles in the Seattle and Puget Sound area, and potentially across North America. The role will feature the following aspects:

Engineering aspects

  • Manage the technical delivery aspects of Rail Systems Design and Construction Contracts, specifically the Traction Electrification disciplines, including Traction Power and Overhead Contact Systems
  • Review Designer's and Constructor's submittals for technical appropriateness, compliance with Owner's requirements, constructability and maintainability
  • Provide expert assistance to Contractors during the installation phase, to optimize installation methods and deliver high-quality solutions; during the testing and commissioning phase to ensure progress to schedule and rigorous testing and recording of Rail Systems installation
  • Provide expert assistance to Contractors and Owners in the optimization of Rail Systems performance during testing and Operational phases
  • Oversee Contractor's activities in the delivery of Rail Systems, recording specification compliance, non-conformances and deviations
  • Provide technical and quality assurance oversight for rail systems projects involving the delivery of new, and upgrade of existing electrification systems


Managerial aspects

  • Provide technical leadership through excellent example
  • Demonstrate innovation, collaboration and decisive action. Particularly in terms of the relationships between Owner, Consultants (including Mott MacDonald), Designers and Contractors. Mott MacDonald's approach is characterized by collaboration, a common understanding of objectives and a supportive culture
  • Motivate teams to excel in technical delivery, on-time performance, and development of positive Client relationships
  • Communicate directly with the Program or Project Manager on all systems aspects of the program
  • Provide detailed analysis and solutions to emerging managerial and technical problems
  • Provide expertise in the preparation and production of contract documentation
  • Ensure a quality process is implemented for any design, upgrades, manufacturing, installation and/or testing & commissioning project phases

We're looking for a Rail Systems Lead to join our team to continue this progress and invite applications from candidates with:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relatable subject
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in Rail Systems Engineering with particular bias towards Traction Electrification
  • Experience in the management and oversight of Design, Construction, Testing and Commissioning
  • Focus on client requirements including technical, schedule and budget
  • Capable of completing work in a controlled environment to meet budget and schedule requirements.
  • PE registration in the state of Washington is preferred


Salary Range: $126,000 - $157,000
