Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Sr. Corporate Accountant!

About the role

The Sr Corporate Accountant(SFRA) is a key participant in the company's accounting close and reporting cycle. The SFRA performs technical accounting research and documentation, performs and/or reviews analysis on company results for both internal and external parties, and participates in projects within the finance department as needed. This may include reviewing and approving the work of other staff members to ensuring proper accounting treatment and adherence to internal controls, the SFRA may also lead the work of others. The SFRA has a strong understanding of the fundamentals of accounting and reporting requirements with an ability and interest to take on complex tasks.

Your responsibilities

  • Accounting Close and Reporting Cycle: Leads (a part) of the accounting close cycle. Prepares and reviews journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and/or reporting files. Prepares and reviews financial analytics, management reports, and other deliverables. Demonstrates mastery of assigned areas and tasks, and has a strong understanding of their functional areas/department.
  • Technical Accounting: Researches and documents accounting issues. Prepares accounting analyses, new or updated accounting policies, and addresses new or complex transactions or accounting guidance.
  • Other projects: Leads ad hoc projects, including identifying solutions and process improvements, accounting transactions, innovation etc. Helps develop and executes a project plan and communicates progress. Auditor involvement: Prepares and reviews more complex schedules; coordinates with auditors. Provides some technical accounting training regarding accounting rules, company controls, policies and processes. Produces a high quality work product, with minimal review comments for improvement. Resolves complex issues. Consults as needed with additional subject matter experts, applies judgment as to when escalation is needed.

Compensation

Salary Range: $75,300- $125,600 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Your education, skills and experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field (Finance, Business Management) preferred
  • 3+ years of work-related experience
  • CPA, CMA a plus
  • Strong Planning, Prioritizing and Organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively with internal and external partners
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to perform assignments independently
  • Provide subject matter expertise to internal partners
  • Developing mentoring and leadership knowledge and skills
  • Technical Accounting Knowledge - intermediate understanding of GAAP (and/or Statutory) accounting guidance
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and General Ledger Software
