Job Description

At the direction of the Tax Director, this individual leads the planning, preparing, reviewing, and filing of corporate tax returns and monthly tax provisions. Provides leadership and insight on income tax matters across the organization. Responsible for technical tax knowledge in compliance, reporting, and forecasting income taxes. The role supports the organization in meeting its clean energy objectives by ensuring that the company minimizes its tax expense and maximizes its clean energy tax incentives.

Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

Job Responsibilities
  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Provides employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
    • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings.

    • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
    • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
    • Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards.
    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews and development plans.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer, and safety results.
  • Prepares and files accurate and timely federal and state income tax returns.
  • Keeps stakeholders informed about tax-related matters, changes in tax laws, and the potential impact on the organization.
  • Participates in all aspects of accounting for, preparing, reviewing, and filing income tax returns and journal entries.
  • Develops the annual effective tax rate forecast.
  • Prepares and reviews the monthly tax provisions.
  • Develops annual forecast of cash tax payments.
  • Forecasts income taxes for the multiyear financial plan.
  • Participates in preparation, review, and filing of tax returns. Creates, gathers, and maintains supporting documentation/records.
  • Reviews tax provisions and ensures compliance with all SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley), SEC (Securities Exchange Commission), and FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission/ WUTC (Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission) reporting requirements.
  • Monitors internal controls and actively updates related procedures.
  • Researches proper tax and accounting treatment and disclosures of business transactions and activity.
  • Works with external and government auditors to ensure and demonstrate compliance with tax laws.
  • Leads and/or participates in special tax related projects.
  • Provides thought leadership and assists in tax strategy development and implementation.
  • Formulates and participates in tax planning to minimize the company's tax liabilities.
  • Develops and implements related guidelines/controls to align with corporate objectives.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends, practices, and developments in tax rules and makes recommendations for implementation.
  • Manages the department budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant tax experience; or Certified Public Accountant designation with five (5) years relevant experience at a major public accounting firm.
  • Strong tax accounting skills and solid knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Utility taxation experience
  • Previous management experience
  • Experience with SAP, RIA Checkpoint, RIA OneSource, PowerPlan Provision and PowerTax.

The pay range for this position is$98,100.00-$232,900.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
