This role is part of Lunar Permanence mission operations, which develops the mission operations systems, training and procedures that support Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a Training Engineer, you will help create training and certification programs for mission controllers and astronauts who operate our lunar lander vehicles. Working with system and subsystem engineers, you will develop technical curriculum, conduct lessons, evaluate candidates for operational positions and work with our Flight Directors to certify all operations personnel before flight. In addition, you will support the development of simulators, mockups and other training tools that will be used to ensure that operators and flight crew are fully prepared to execute the ambitious missions of the lunar program.

Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:

  • Help define the training curriculum for Blue Moon lunar mission operations teams and Astronaut crews, in collaboration with the Mission Operations and vehicle engineering teams

  • Develop and implement the training program for engineers responsible for testing and operating Blue Moon vehicles

  • Training modalities will include eLearning, on-the-job training, hands-on training with software and hardware-in-the-loop simulators and mockups, classroom and virtual training, and flight crew vehicle simulators

  • Develop specialty courses of instruction, working with a wide variety of individuals to research course content

  • Facilitate classroom, blended learning, virtual training sessions, and evaluations

  • Build course outlines, lesson plans, storyboards, instructor and participant materials

  • Develop manuals and reference documents to support training and operations

  • Evaluate flight controller and crew proficiency and currency for mission operations

  • Develop refresher training and other training mitigation plans as needed

  • Maintain accurate, auditable records of flight controller teams and crew training completion

  • Work in an environment with tight deadlines and time-critical deliverables

  • Dedication to establishing a respectful, safe environment for learning

  • Dedication to building a cohesive team through leadership, problem-solving skills, and strong listening and communications skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in a relevant field - such as engineering, instructional design, education, or communication

  • Experience writing training course materials (lesson objectives and plans, evaluation criteria, hands-on training activities)

  • Experience authoring training plans, maintenance and operations manuals, and other technical documents

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in defining, developing, validating, and executing technical training for engineers working in a high technology operational environment

  • Experience training and developing operations personnel and/or astronauts for human spaceflight missions

  • Basic systems engineering experience - such as requirements development and execution of verification and validation

  • Knowledge of all major spacecraft subsystems

  • Experience with robotic space missions or human spaceflight

Compensation range for onsite WA applicants is $79,830-$111,762
