Summary

In this role, you will bring to life deep consumer understanding and insights that inspire big ideas and profitable brand growth. You will lead a learning agenda for consumers in multiple key Growth Segments - including but not limited to - Mass Affluent consumers 40-70-year-old and High-Net-Worth markets while working closely with marketing, product and digital teams to develop product communication and strategies that are grounded in deep consumer and category understanding. Keeping a pulse on both competitive and consumer trends to ensure our marketing teams are making decisions that both differentiate and resonate with our core consumers is a key element of this role as well.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • As a member of a high-performance Consumer Insights team, you help to drive clarity across core and emerging growth segments by creating a focused and proactive learning agenda (e.g., consumer mindset understanding, concept testing/refinement, message optimization, client experience enhancement, thought leadership, etc.).

  • Lead implementation of the learning agenda by designing multi-stage research efforts, sourcing and managing agency partners through execution, analyzing and interpreting the learnings across multiple data sets, and providing recommendations and thought leadership to key stakeholders based on the findings.

  • Work cross-functionally with brand, product, client marketing, and digital teams to develop communication and strategies that are grounded in deep consumer and competitive understanding.

  • Be a passionate advocate for your consumer Growth Segments in internal meetings and a driver of consumer insight-led actions across the enterprise.

  • Bring a consumer lens to our work every day as a "trend seeker" who's able to add to discussions on consumer insights, cultural trends, etc. should be able to then apply insights to drive teams to action, inform creative briefs, drive integrated strategies that ultimately increase brand relevance and impact.

  • Monitor relevant consumer, brand and category trends specific to emerging dynamics: (e.g., Growing Wealth Transfer Trends; Impacts of Student Debt, Evolving CX expectations, etc.).

  • Track and maintain insight project budgets and billing.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in consumer insights, strategy and/or consulting; Significant time supporting marketing strategy ideation sessions and client marketing experience. Experience in diversity & inclusivity marketing efforts preferred. Financial Services not a requirement.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, advertising, communications or related field. MBA or master's degree strongly preferred.

  • A self-starter who's able to self-direct the management and execution of projects from inception through completion - on target, on brand, on time, on budget.

  • Professionalism around research design, analysis and interpretation to deliver credible work free of bias.

  • A strong communicator both in written and verbal form

  • A strong collaborator, who is skilled at working with various levels and functions across an enterprise.

  • Comfortable influencing without authority, requiring strong relationship skills across various department disciplines.

  • Data-driven decision maker with strong foundation of branding best practices, strategies and insights

  • A creative problem solver who can apply diverse thought and experiences to optimize brand results.

  • Professional, upbeat, inquisitive personality who accepts disruption and challenging the status quo.

  • Be comfortable advocating for the consumer and driving consumer insight-led actions across the enterprise.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$100,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$185,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
