We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Materials Manager to work in our collaborative manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, NC. This position is responsible to manage the development of capacity and inventory plans, translate forecasts into high level material plans, lead the planning and assist in the leadership of the Supply Chain, Warehouse and Shipping teams toward process excellence. Responsibilities

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Translate Demand Planning's forecast into high level material plans for short and longer term planning. Manage the development of forecast and inventory planning in anticipation of customer needs and in accordance with the SIOP process.
  • Direct a staff of Supply Chain Specialists to purchase and schedule all manufacturing operations, considering factors such as target inventory levels, promised deliveries and material availability.
  • Provide leadership to a talented staff through prioritization of activities as well as guidance in the pursuit of skills and training required for industry leading performance and personal development.
  • Direct, lead, manage and support activities of staff responsible for the facility Warehouse and Shipping operations. Work with Global Sourcing team to select optimal supply base to obtain materials that meet MSA's business and technical requirements. Support the development of contracts and agreements such as vendor stocking or consignment programs.
  • Develop strategies for using available resources and new techniques to optimize the plant Inventory Control department and direct staff to ensure those strategies are approved and are successfully implemented.
  • Coordinate and manage efficient and effective storage, inventory, and control of all required material warehousing according to the cycle counting policies.
  • Develop and drive performance to annual budget. Accountable to manage and report a broad array of information including: delivery performance, inventory days on hand (DOH), materials plans, production performance, PPV, and material cost reduction efforts.
  • Collaborate with plant leadership team to drive key initiatives for continuous improvement in market expected lead time (MELT) delivery, production order execution, inventory accuracy, and product confirmation.
  • Provide guidance and direction for materials plans relating to new product development efforts, assuring quality and necessary materials are available in sufficient quantity on a timely basis.
  • Utilize MSA Operating System to facilitate daily meetings, monitor department performance, track key actions, and drive problem solving exercises.
  • Develop and maintain positive work relationships with associates at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the Jacksonville plant. Includes collaboration with key teams such as Marketing, Sales, Global Strategic Sourcing & Supply Chain and Global Logistics & Transportation - which includes our Distribution Centers


Qualifications

  • Sound proficiency with Microsoft Office products using Excel as an analytical tool.
  • Extensive knowledge of MRP and ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Demonstrated initiative and innovation in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, react quickly to change along with a demonstrated sense of urgency.
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting ability.
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and mentor associates, manage functional teams while promoting individual development, teamwork, delegation, individual responsibility and positive employee morale.
  • Successful track record of planning and supporting the development of individuals' skills and abilities so that they can fulfill current or future job/role responsibilities more effectively.
  • Experience allocating decision-making authority and/or task responsibility to appropriate others to maximize the organization's and individuals' effectiveness.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestic/global.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Level I:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business or other related discipline.
    • Minimum 5 years experience in materials management, inventory control or related discipline
    • Supervisory experience
    • Professional Supply Chain Management Certification, such as Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Product and Inventory Management (CPIM)
  • Level II:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business or other related discipline.
    • Minimum 7 years experience in materials management, inventory control or related discipline
    • Supervisory experience
    • Professional Supply Chain Management Certification, such as Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Product and Inventory Management (CPIM)

Preferred:

  • 7+ years of experience in Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with configured material numbers and their BOM structures
